I watched Julie and Julia once again the other night. Despite the fact that I've already watched it a couple of times, it never fails to make me tear up. I get a heavy dose of inspiration from the story of Julia, the struggling middle-aged writer and Julie, a woman who found her true joy and purpose in cooking. It's a true story and it's one of my go-to movies when I have had a bad day at work (another one is The Devil Wears Prada).
Like the inspiration I get from movies like that, this morning, I found on chuvaness.com the story of Samantha Sotto. I will not rant on further about her for I believe chuvaness.com's entry and her website shall suffice. But this is something that stood out for me:
"I don’t want to say that you shouldn’t be scared about trying out new things — because you should be. Big life changes are, by their nature, terrifying. Being scared means that you’ve really thought about what you’re leaving and what you are planning to get into. Fear isn’t a sign that you shouldn’t be pursuing something — it’s a test of whether you want it enough to risk failing at it." - Samantha Sotto
Whether you're currently facing a life-changing event in your life or, like me, just treading on the path of post-grad confusion (although I'm nearly two years post-grad!), I think it's important to acclimatize and adjust your thinking into this: That fear is not only normal, it's a step up from bumming around doing nothing (read: being a dreamer). It only means you have unveiled the face of what you really want and the next step depends on how you overcome that fear by, yes, moving your a** and doing something about it.
